Camera: the configurations of the camera sensor and the lens during the acquisition of a set of photographs. Even if all the photos in a data set were taken with the same camera with the same settings, within photogrammetry each image is associated to one camera. All the cameras might or might not have the same calibration, but they do not have the same orientation.
Calibration: interior orientation, that is, the acquisition settings of the camera.
Orientation (exterior): the position and angle of the camera in relation to the image.
Contact sheet: a contact sheet was originally a small format film strip intended for image review created by placing film negatives in contact with a sheet of photographic paper. Nowadays, the term refers to a document displaying small format images from a photo set.
Homologous point (Tie point): reference point for assembling two neighbouring images. Several techniques exist for automatically identifying tie points. MicMac uses one of the most common: the SIFT algorithm (see SIFT). They are then plotted in a 3D space during the recognition of the interior and exterior orientations of the cameras.
SIFT (Scale-invariant feature transform): a tool that can automatically detect tie points on two neighbouring images even if they are not of the same size (resolution), the same framing (scale), and the same view point (orientation), or the same luminosity (exposure).
CRS (Coordinate reference system): mathematical framework used to precisely measure locations on the surface of the Earth as coordinates.
GCP (Ground control point): marked reference point on the surface of the Earth with known geographic coordinates.
